Do you want to have yourself a real hoot and a holler dumping mag after mag into plinking targets all day? That’s great! No one appreciates that pastime better than us. But this 5.56×45 ammunition by Barnes, right here? It’s for a more refined kind of shooting, where keen accuracy and tight groupings are preferred.
The Precision Match 5.56 cartridge is loaded with Barnes’ proprietary Match Burner bullet. It’s a precision-made open tip match boat tail. It’s also a heavyweight at 69 grains, but that only gives it a higher ballistic coefficient (G1 0.330) so it can stay rooted to a flatter, more wind-resistant trajectory. A 1:7” to 1:10” rate of twist ought to stabilize 69 grains well.
In addition to its low-drag boat tail and narrow tip, the OTM has a form-fitted core. The tiny hole in the bullet’s tip does not initiate expansion; it was the opening the core passed through while it was still liquid lead.
Barnes pioneered the world of monolithic bullets, but they sure do know how to load a traditional bullet as well. This ammo has precision priming, match brass, and propellant that does its only job perfectly.
